1. CULTURAL POLICIES AND CULTURAL DEVELOPMENT IN SOUTHEASTERN EUROPE: NEW REALITIES AND CHALLENGES The expert meeting was held in Zagreb, Croatia, on 10-11 September 2004, organized by Culturelink in coordination with the Department for Culture and Communication, Institute for International Relations, Zagreb. The inevitable problematic of cultural transition in SEE countries was broached, along with the issue of radical changes brought onto the region by fifteen-odd years of transition. Speakers from various SEE countries looked at a range of opportunities for cultural cooperation, with special emphasis on the possible dangers and obstacles standing in the way of such teamwork. The importance of intercultural mediation in the region is vital, it was summed up, and the meeting was concluded with plans for future cooperation and coordination among SEE countries. USING GOOGLE FOR AFRICAN STUDIES RESEARCH: A GUIDE TO EFFECTIVE WEB SEARCHING Hans Zell Publishing has launched a new Web research resource designed to help the user get the most out of Google's Web searching techniques. The guide, liberally interspersed with examples relating to Africa or African studies topics, is now freely accessible online. >>> 3. NOMA CONCOURS FOR PICTURE BOOK ILLUSTRATIONS Entries are invited to the 2004 Noma Concours for Picture Book Illustrations, organised biennially to discover up-and-coming illustrators, graphic designers and artists in Asia, the Pacific, Africa, Arab States, and Latin America. 4. LITTLE FRONT OF NEW (CROATIAN) PERFORMANCE AND DANCE The organizer of this meeting to be held in Zagreb, Croatia on 4-6 November 2004 is the Centre for Drama and Art (CDU), which will also cover transportation and accommodation expenses for interested producers, programmers and curators. >>> 5. LINGUISTIC DIVERSITY AND EDUCATION: CHALLENGES AND OPPORTUNITIES The main goal of this conference to be held in Ljouwert/Leeuwarden, The Netherlands, on 25-27 November 2004, is to look at new issues and developments in the filed of education, minority languages and learning within the European Union. >>> 6. MUSIC FOR EUROPE - ExTENDED VISIONS To be held in Brussels, Belgium on 3-5 December 2004, this event is the Final Conference of ExTEND 2004, the Experimental Transnational European Network Development, an initiative launched by Jeunesses Musicales International with the aim to strengthen the youth and music network in Europe by creating a pan-European platform that ensures the exchange of knowledge and practices between music organizations, musicians and listeners. >>> | |||

7. MASTER'S PROGRAMME IN INTERCULTURAL COMPETENCIES Partial study grants are offered to students from Eastern Europe for this postgraduate programme starting in November 2004 at the Danube University Krems in Austria. >>> 8. ARTSLINK RESIDENCIES PROGRAMME ArtsLink places artists and arts managers from East/Central Europe, Russia and Eurasia at U.S. arts organizations for five-week residencies. The deadline of application for dance, music, theater and literature residencies to be held in the fall of 2005 is 5 November 2004. >>> |
