1. INTERNATIONAL PRODUCTION MANAGEMENT FOR THE PERFORMING ARTS This 3-day Amsterdam-Maastricht Summer University course to be held in Amsterdam, the Netherlands, on 29–31 August 2005, aims to give insight into the instruments to be put into immediate use in contemporary practice. The deadline for applications is 20 July 2005. >>> 2. TRANSNATIONAL PILOT COURSE FOR RADICAL AESTHETICS The European Institute for Progressive Cultural Policies (eipcp) invites activists, artists and student to send their applications for this one-year course, to take place between October 2005 and September 2006 in Barcelona, Linz, Lüneburg, Napoli, Paris, and Vienna, by 27 July 2005. >>> 3. 8TH CONFERENCE 'EUROPEAN CULTURE' Wishing to see culture in its widest significance, the conference entitled Europe: Encounters and Frontiers is open to every scientific and artistic field, referring both to shared characteristics and diversity. The second deadline for professionals ends on 31 July. >>> 4. INTERNATIONAL DIRECTOR'S LABORATORY Through intensive practical work, theoretical discussions and lectures, the Laboratory to be held in Kiev, Ukraine, on 22-27 August 2005, will answer various topical questions of stage artists interested in contemporary directing and production. Registration deadline is 1 August 2005. >>> 5. EUROPA NOSTRA AWARDS 2005 The yearly European Union Prize for Cultural Heritage awards prizes for a project in the field of the conservation / restoration / rehabilitation of architectural heritage, cultural landscapes, and works of art or archaeological sites; for a study leading to tangible effects in the conservation or enhancement of category 1 areas; and for a dedicated service to heritage conservation. Closing dates for applications are 1 August 2005 and 15 September 2005 respectively. >>> 6. CULTURAL POLICY MANAGEMENT IN AMERICAN AND EUROPEAN COUNTRIES Aiming to broaden their study and deepen their understanding, this international course, to be held in Buenos Aires, Argentina on 22-27 August 2005, will provide an all-encompassing overview and comparison of the various models of modern cultural policies. Application deadline is 12 August 2005. >>> 7. INTERNATIONAL CONGRESS ON INTERCULTURAL AND INTERRELIGIOUS DIALOGUE Under the title New Challenges in a World Longing for Peace, the International Catholic Movement for Intellectual and Cultural Affairs Barandiaran Kristau Alkartea - Pax Romana in collaboration with UNESCO Etxea will hold the congress in Bilbao, Spain on 11-13 December 2005. Paper proposals will be accepted until 1 September 2005. >>> 8. 3RD INTERNATIONAL LANGUAGE, COMMUNICATION, CULTURE CONFERENCE The conference to be held in Évora, Portugal, on 23-25 November 2005, invites international, interdisciplinary 20-minute papers on the languages of globalisation, the languages of culture; globalisation and democracy in global communication; and globalisation and culture. Application deadline is 11 September 2005. >>> 9. FOURTH INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE ON CULTURAL POLICY RESEARCH Aiming to discuss both, the policies of decision makers, of administration and institutions as well as the wider discourses related to the general conditions of culture, iccpr 2006, to be held in Vienna, Austria, on 12–16 July 2006, invites proposals for paper presentations to reflect a broad range of experiences and views on cultural policy, encouraging participation from Latin America, Africa and Asia as well as South-eastern Europe and Mediterranean countries. Deadline for abstracts is 31 October 2005. >>> 10. 14TH INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE ON CULTURAL ECONOMICS The organisers of the 2006 Association of Cultural Economics International (ACEI) Conference, to take place in Vienna, Austria, on 6–9 July 2006, invite the submission of papers in all areas of the application of economics to the performing and visual arts, heritage, media, cultural industries and cultural policy, especially encouraging contributions from Central, Eastern, and Southeastern Europe. Submissions deadline is 31 January 2006. >>> 11. CULTURE AND CULTURE POLICY IN THE NEW EUROPEAN UNION CLCWeb: Comparative Literature and Culture, a peer-refereed full-text scholarly journal of humanities and social sciences, edited and published online, calls for papers for its thematic issue on Culture and Culture Policy in the New European Union. Foci include aspects of culture and culture policy in the eastward enlargement of the European Union. Papers should be sent by 30 March 2006. >>> |

SALZBURG CULTURE FORUM 2005 Organized by the International Centre for Culture and Management (ICCM), the forum entitled ‘Why Doubt – Why Draft’ will be held at St. Josef College, Salzburg, Austria on 25 July – 27 August 2005, featuring renowned lecturers and trainers of cultural management. >>> 13. CULTURAL ENTITLEMENT AND CULTURAL LEARNING IN EUROPE AND BEYOND Catalyst, a three day conference about cultural policy in Europe, will be held in Manchester and Liverpool, United Kingdom between15-17 September 2005, drawing together European delegates in a rich programme of speeches, debates between practitioners and policy makers, and workshops, seeking to share theory and practice. SIETAR EUROPA CONGRESS 2005 Focusing on the role of intercultural studies, practices and arts in addressing the pressing cultural issues of our time, the SIETAR Europa Congress 2005 will be held in La Colle sur Loup, near Nice, France, on 21-25 September 2005 under the title Your Culture, My Culture, Our Opportunity: Intercultural Theories, Tools and Best Practices for Education, Society and Business in a Polarized World. >>> 15. THEATRE/SOCIETY: PROBLEMS AND PERSPECTIVES This international, interdisciplinary conference, organised by the Department of Theatre Studies at the Vytautas Magnus University, Kaunas, Lithuania, to be held on 27-28 October 2005, invites participants both to investigate the interrelations of theatre or performative art forms and society as well as to analyze the manifestations of theatricality in the socio-cultural milieu. >>> 16. 17. IMAGINING A WORLD WITHOUT COPYRIGHT Continuing the discussion led recently at the Second World Culturelink Conference, Joost Smiers, professor of political science of the arts at the Utrecht School of the Arts, has decided to make publicly available his essay entitled Imagining a World Without Copyright - The Market and Temporary Protection a Better Alternative for Artists and the Public Domain, co-authored with Marieke van Schijndel, policy advisor. The goal of the essay is to move beyond any notion centred on private intellectual property rights and develop an alternative for artists and cultural entrepreneurs that will benefit them by bringing the increasing privatisation of creativity and expertise to a halt. >>> 18. ANIMUS WEBSITE LAUNCHED Animus, An International Network for Training in Culture Animation, has launched its website at http://www.animusproject.com. The project, realized in the framework of European Commission Programme Leonardo da Vinci – Transnational Networks and administered by the Institute for Polish Culture at Warsaw University, features the works of nine partner organisations across Europe, looking at the most effective ways in which artists can learn about working with local communities, and aiming to establish a sustainable and spreading network of training institutions in culture animation. >>> |
