1. SECOND WORLD CULTURELINK CONFERENCE REPORT On 27 September 2005, the concluding Report about the Second World Culturelink Conference has been presented to and approved by the Scientific Council of the Institute for International Relations (IMO). The full Report is available online. In addition, the conference proceedings are currently being prepared for print. >>> 2. EXPERT MEETING AND POSTGRADUATE COURSE REPORT The final Report about IMO's Expert Meeting and Postgraduate Course on Cultural Cooperation in Southeastern Europe - Managing Cultural Transitions in Southeastern Europe: The Impact of Creative Industries, held in Dubrovnik, Croatia in May 2005 has been published online. A collection of papers will be published by the year's end. >>> |

3. CALL FOR SPEAKERS FOR THE 2006 WORLD SUMMIT ON ARTS AND CULTURE Inspirational speakers, panel members from diverse backgrounds and practical case studies are being sought for the World Summit on Arts and Culture: Transforming Paces, Transforming Lives, to be hosted by the Arts Council England and organized in partnership with IFACCA and a range of funding partners. The event aimed at cultural leaders, policy makers and regeneration managers will take place in Newcastle Gateshead, England, on 14-17 June 2006. The deadline for the first call for speakers/case studies is 30 September 2005. >>> 4. RACISMS IN THE NEW WORLD ORDER The Centre for Multicultural and Community Development (CMCD), University of the Sunshine Coast, Australia, organises a conference under the title Racisms in the New World Order: Realities of Culture, Colour and Identity, to be held in Coolum, Queensland, Australia, on 8-9 December 2005. The closing date for papers has been extended to the end of September 2005. >>> 5. FOURTH MERCATOR INTERNATIONAL SYMPOSIUM The 4th Mercator International Symposium on European Minority Languages will be held in Aberystwyth, Wales, on 26-28 October 2005, under the title Translation of Culture, Culture of Translation: Languages in Film, Television and Literature. Registration closes 10 October 2005. >>> 6. HUMAN BEING, CULTURE AND SOCIETY IN THE CONTEXT OF GLOBALIZATION In cooperation with the UNESCO Moscow Office, the Russian Institute for Cultural Research is organising this international scientific conference to be held in Moscow on 25-27 November 2005 aiming to bring together Russian and foreign researchers, and representatives of scientific and academic institutions. The deadline for submission of applications is 1 October and for papers 15 October 2005. >>> 7. FOURTH INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE ON CULTURAL POLICY RESEARCH Aiming to discuss both the policies of decision makers, administration and institutions as well as the wider discourses related to the general conditions of culture, iccpr 2006, to be held in Vienna, Austria, on 12–16 July 2006, invites proposals for paper presentations to reflect a broad range of experiences and views on cultural policy, encouraging participation from Latin America, Africa and Asia as well as SE Europe and Mediterranean countries. The deadline for abstracts is 31 October 2005. >>> 8. 12TH INTERNATIONAL ARTISTS RESIDENCY IN BUDAPEST Aiming to investigate and present contemporary art, as well as to develop theoretical and practical self-help through critical development, the Hungarian Multicultural Centre Inc., a non-profit organization, invites 30 interested visual artists and writers to submit applications for its programs to be held in Budapest, Hungary, between 27 December 2005 and 6 January 2006. The deadline for entry forms is 1 November 2005. >>> 9. CONSERVATION OF MODERN ARCHITECTURE Applications are open for the course on Suburban Developments of the Recent Past: Visions – Realities – Futures, to take place in Helsinki, Finland, on 13 May – 9 June 2006. Application deadline is 15 November 2005. >>> 10. GLOBAL ARTS VILLAGE IN INDIA As of November 2005, the Global Arts Village, an international artist residential centre based in New Delhi, India, will offer a wide range of fellowship programs for artists of all creative disciplines – visual, performing, literary etc. Practicing community living, the Village enables artists to experience a natural, eco-friendly environment for creative work. 11. WORLD FORUM ON MUSIC The International Music Council (IMC) and the City of Los Angeles Department of Cultural Affairs are organizing the World Forum of Music, a global knowledge-building platform on Music and Society in the 21st Century to be held in Los Angeles, USA, on 1-5 October 2005. Seeking synergies across different sectors, it will provide opportunities for government officials, private sector executives, and professionals from the civil society, scholars, artists, and students to engage in serious debates on current key issues. >>> 12. INTERNATIONAL CULTURE FAIR 'CAUCASUS 2005' The International Culture Fair 'Caucasus 2005' will be held in Tbilisi, Georgia, on 14-21 October 2005; at which producers, managers, renowned art experts, agents, and representatives of art festivals and auctions are invited to rebuild the ancient Caucasus marketplace. >>> 13. SUSTAINING WORLD HERITAGE IN THE 21ST CENTURY The 11th International Conference of National Trusts, to be held in Washington, DC, on 15-19 October 2005, will gather global leaders, activists, and practitioners in the fields of preservation, heritage tourism, historic site management, and conservation. Funding is available to professionals from Russia, Albania, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Croatia, Czech Republic, Georgia, Hungary, Kazakhstan, Kosovo, Macedonia, Mongolia, Poland, Romania, Serbia and Montenegro, Slovakia, Slovenia, Ukraine, and Uzbekistan. >>> 14. INTERNATIONAL COURSE OF ACTOR'S TRAINING & CONTEMPORARY DIRECTING The International University Global Theatre Experience (IUGTE) invites stage artists from all over the world to participate in the programme entitled Professionals to Professionals through intensive practical work, theoretical lectures and discussions making up its International Course of Actor's Training & Contemporary Directing to be carried out in the framework of the International Festival Theatre Methods 06, organized in Kiev, Ukraine, on 17-22 October 2005. >>> 15. ARTS – TOWARDS AN INCLUSIVE SOCIETY CONFERENCE Arts – Towards an Inclusive Society, to be held in Belfast, Northern Ireland, on 21-23 October 2005, is an international conference of arts and community activists, policy makers, artists, and other experts to examine the role of the arts in bringing about meaningful social change. Local projects will be showcased to an international audience demonstrating how community arts have evolved throughout the peace process. >>> 16. CREATIVE CLUSTERS 2005 Organized by Creative Clusters, the Third International Conference on Creative Industries Development; the principal networking and peer-learning event for creative industry development people, will be held in Belfast, Northern Ireland on 24-26 October 2005, focusing on investing in creativity, delivering skills for creativity and inclusion through creativity. >>> 17. STRATEGIES FOR THE FUTURE OF CULTURE: DRESDEN IN GLOBAL CONTEXT Aiming to examine how cultural creation, display and preservation will evolve in the 21st century, the Conference, to be held in Dresden, Germany, on 27-29 October 2005, will discuss the impact of terrorism, political instability, increasing urbanism, and ecological disasters on cultural institutions and on the creation of new artistic works in all fields and media. >>> 18. INTERNATIONAL FORUM ON THE SOCIAL SCIENCE – POLICY NEXUS The International Forum on the Social Science – Policy Nexus (IFSP), to take place in Argentina and Uruguay, has been postponed. The new dates are 20-24 February 2006. >>> 19. WORLD CONFERENCE ON ARTS EDUCATION Under the title Building Creative Capacities for the 21st Century, UNESCO and the Government of Portugal, in collaboration with NGOs such as INSEA, ISME, IDEA and IE, will hold this conference in Lisbon, Portugal, on 6-9 March 2006. The Conference will concentrate on arts education, referring to the teaching of arts practices (visual arts, performing arts, dance, music, theatre, creative writing and poetry). >>> |

20. CULTURAL HERITAGE COUNTS FOR EUROPE – POSITION PAPER OF EUROPA NOSTRA Europa Nostra’s latest contribution to the growing debate across Europe on the EU’s future strategy and action for culture and cultural heritage is a position paper that strongly supports the present move towards an enhanced cultural dimension of the European integration process and underlines the multiple benefits which cultural heritage provides for Europe’s society, environment and economy. >>> 21. THE FEDERAL DEMOCRATIC REPUBLIC OF ETHIOPIA CULTURAL POLICY The Ministry of Youth, Sports and Culture of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia has made its cultural policy publicly available online. >>> 22. ART AND SPORT SUPPORTING NGO The Art and Sport Supporting NGO from Yerevan, Armenia aims to contribute to the development of culture and sports in the country by sponsoring young talents to continue their education at leading foreign universities and promoting the ideas of a healthy way of living among the young people, by organizing and implementing development programmes and providing methodical help to cultural and sport organizations. >>> |

23. ALL THAT DUTCH, INTERNATIONAL CULTURAL POLITICS The book presents the collected views of art professionals, scholars and policy-makers sharing their insights and views based on four different themes: culture and politics, culture and the economy, international reflection and cultural profiling. Various themes are considered from these four perspectives: Culture and Politics, Culture and Economy, International Mediation, and Cultural Profile. >>> 24. TAKING EUROPE TO HEART – A TOUR OF THE EUROPE PRIZE TOWNS To celebrate the fiftieth anniversary of the Europe Prize, created in 1955 and awarded each year to a city which has been especially successful in promoting the European ideal, the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe pays a special tribute to the prize-winning cities in a commemorative book. This lavishly illustrated publication guides the reader through sixty-one cities representing, each in its own way, one step in the construction of Europe. >>> 25. CITY TOURISM & CULTURE – THE EUROPEAN EXPERIENCE The World Tourism Organization and the European Travel Commission have recently launched a new joint study entitled City Tourism & Culture – The European Experience. As cultural city tourism is a relatively “new” sector, the purpose of this study was to increase the knowledge on cultural city trips. Its main objective was to create a conceptual framework with a structural approach that can be broadly used in practical marketing and product development. >>> 26. CULTURE IS NOT A LUXURY: CULTURE IN DEVELOPMENT AND COOPERATION This 44-page booklet published by the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC) is devoted to the role of culture in development and cooperation efforts. It contains background information, programme guidelines and project examples from Mali, Mozambique, Burkina Fasso, Cuba, Nicaragua, Vietnam, India, Bangladesh, Romania, Macedonia, Uzbekistan, and Tajikistan. A free PDF version is available online. >>> 27. TECHNOLOGICAL PARK CULTURE Prepared by Milena Deleva and published by the European Cultural Foundation and the Ecumest Association, the Policies for Culture case study entitled Technological Park Culture sets out the structure and results, as well as the methodology and the processes involved in the implementation of the action projects "Technological Park Culture I & II". This distinctive process of civil society development aimed at playing the role of both observatory and laboratory in the field of cultural policy development in Bulgaria. >>> 28. WHOSE CULTURE IS IT? TRANSGENERATIONAL APPROACHES TO CULTURE A selection of papers and the conclusions from the round table meeting of experts on the subject of Transgenerational Approaches to Culture, held by CIRCLE in Barcelona, Spain in December 2004, have been collated in a publication of the same title. The publication is available from the CIRCLE secretariat. >>> 29. REVISTA DE CIENCIAS SOCIALES The University of Costa Rica published a new issue of the Revista de Ciencias Sociales (no.103-104), dedicated to the study of Culture at the Root of Politics in Latin America, an important theme in view of the rapid changes taking place on the continent and considering the hypothesis that political change is not possible without cultural change. >>> |
