2. INTERDISCIPLINARY DIALOGUES IN ARTS EDUCATION InSEA's international congress entitled Interdisciplinary Dialogues in Arts Education, to be held in Viseu, Portugal, on 1-5 March 2006, will stress the importance of arts education and its contribution to the full development of human personality and to the strengthening of respect for human rights and fundamental freedoms. Conclusions from the Congress will be presented in Lisbon at UNESCO's World Conference on Arts Education immediately following the event. Reminder: the deadline for paper texts is 31 December 2005. >>> 3. MUSEUM OF MODERN ART GRADUATE SYMPOSIUM MoMA, the Museum of Modern Art, seeks submissions for its Second Annual Graduate Symposium in Modern and Contemporary Art entitled World Art - Art World: Changing Perspectives on Modern and Contemporary Art, to be held in New York, USA, on 28–29 April 2006. Submissions should be postmarked no later than 13 January 2006. >>> 4. SYMPOSIUM ON THE IMPACT OF ARTS AND CULTURAL EDUCATION Following an initiative by the French Government, a European and international symposium on research carried out into evaluating the impact of arts and cultural education on children and young people is to be held in Paris, France, on 10-12 January 2007. Aiming to take stock both of completed research and of research still in progress, the organizers have launched a call for papers, to be submitted preferably by 15 January 2006. 5. MASTER STUDIES IN CULTURAL PROMOTION AND DEVELOPMENT The Autonomous University of Coahuila, Mexico organizes virtual Master Studies in Cultural Promotion and Development. The objective of the programme is to train and professionalize cultural promoters in social action and the planning and administration of its development. First semester lectures start on 16 January 2006. >>> 6. 13th INTERNATIONAL ARTISTS RESIDENCIES / SEMINAR The Hungarian Multicultural Center invites interested visual artists and writers to submit applications for its residency programmes in Csopak, Hungary, aiming to provide a supportive community with uninterrupted time to work. Dates: 22 May – 15 June, 19 June – 13 July, and 17 July – 10 August 2006. The deadline for entries is 30 January 2006. >>> 7. SKOWHEGAN SCHOOL OF PAINTING AND SCULPTURE The Skowhegan School of Painting and Sculpture announces its 2006 summer session to take place on 10 June – 12 August 2006. This intensive nine-week summer residency programme for emerging visual artists provides a stimulating and rigorous environment to support artistic creation and interaction. Application deadline is 1 February 2006. >>> 8. INTERNATIONAL SARAJEVO WINTER FESTIVAL The traditional Festival to be held on 7 February – 21 March 2006 organized by the International Peace Center Sarajevo calls primary, high school and university students worldwide for participation in this year's contest entitled The Light. >>> 9. ANNA LINDH EURO-MEDITERRANEAN FOUNDATION The Anna Lindh Euro-Mediterranean Foundation for the Dialogue between Cultures is seeking proposals for activities and initiatives that support intercultural dialogue in the 35 Euro-Mediterranean countries. 10. 19TH ANNUAL CONFERENCE ON INTERDISCIPLINARY QUALITATIVE STUDIES The conference Local Knowledge, Global Contexts: Mapping the Terrain of Qualitative Research in the 21st Century will be organized by the Georgia Centre for Continuing Education in Athens, Georgia, USA, on 6-8 January 2006, aiming to look at the shifting terrain of qualitative research in the face of technological innovations, the development of multinational corporate structures, and the growth in transnational population flows. >>> 11. METHODS – RESEARCH PROJECTS ON ART-SOCIETY RELATIONS On the occasion of Arte Fiera 2006 at the Bologna Exhibition Centre, Cittadellarte / Fondazione Pistoletto and Artfactories are organising the Second International Workshop on issues related to art and social transformation in our society, to be held on 27-30 January 2006. >>> 12. 13. DYNAMIC ACTION PLAN FOR THE EU CO-ORDINATION OF DIGITIZATION OF CULTURAL AND SCIENTIFIC CONTENT The UK Presidency of the EU has recently launched the Dynamic Action Plan for the EU Co-ordination of Digitization of Cultural and Scientific Content aiming to make Europe's cultural heritage more accessible through the Internet. >>> 14. CENTRE OF EXPERTISE ON CULTURE AND COMMUNITIES The Centre of Expertise on Culture and Communities located at Simon Fraser University’s Vancouver campus is a three-year initiative of the Canadian Creative City Network. The Centre' activities include three interlinked components: knowledge generation (research), outreach and networking, and awareness/knowledge exchange. >>> 15. CULTURBASE.NET Culturebase.net, an online information source on contemporary international artists, cultural practitioners and experts from all fields, contains profiles of over 1000 individuals and groups from all regions of the world, searchable by name, genre, place and Crossroads - a unique way of exploring and connecting artists' work. >>> |

16. LISBON DECLARATION At it's fourth session held in Lisbon, Portugal on 2-4 December 2005 under the title Creative Future - The Role of Culture in a Post Industrialized Europe, the European Cultural Parliament (ECP) passed the Lisbon Declaration in response to a call by its guest speaker Jose Manuel Barroso. >>> 17. MY ACORNS – NEW SERVICE FROM IFACCA The International Federation of Arts Councils and Culture Agencies (IFACCA) celebrates the 100th edition of its ACORNS magazine by providing a new service called My ACORNS, enabling IFACCA members to pick keywords that will then be highlighted in their personal HTML versions of ACORNS. >>> 18. THINKING EUROPE lab concepts - the Laboratory for Conception and Realisation for Politics, Education and Culture – announces the online newsletter Thinking Europe, to present the activities, research results and positions taken by leading European think tanks. >>> 19. EUROPEAN FESTIVAL RESEARCH PROJECT The European Festival Research Project (EFRP) is a comprehensive mid-term interdisciplinary research project, initiated in 2004, that aims to study the dynamics, impacts and transformation of festivals in Europe through clusters of research papers. THE ARTS, POLITICS AND CHANGE The Arts, Politics and Change: Participative Cultural Policymaking in South East Europe, edited by Hanneloes Weeda, Corina Suteu and Cas Smithuijsen, and published by Boekmanstudies, records the reforms of cultural policies in South East Europe and describes the results achieved to date. >>> 21. ARTS MANAGEMENT IN TURBULANT TIMES: ADAPTABLE QUALITY MANAGEMENT Arts Management in Turbulent Times: Adaptable Quality Management is the title of the recently launched book by Milena Dragičević Šešić (University of Belgrade) and Sanjin Dragojević (University of Zagreb), published by the Boekman Foundation. The book draws together a unique combination of contemporary Western and Eastern European approaches to arts management. >>> 22. MAKING THE JOURNEY: ARTS AND DISABILITY IN AUSTRALIA Making the Journey: Arts and Disability in Australia is the title of Arts Access Australia's book about arts activities and people with disabilities. It offers 12 case studies as examples of approaches, issues and achievements in the Australian field of art and disability in recent years. >>> 23. MAYAS IN THE MARKETPLACE: TOURISM, GLOBALIZATION AND CULTURAL IDENTITY Walter E. Little's book Mayas in the Marketplace: Tourism, Globalization and Cultural Identity is the first ethnographic study of Maya handicraft vendors in the international marketplace. A wide-ranging research presented in this book challenges our current understanding of tourism's negative impact on indigenous communities. >>> 24. CULINARY CULTURES OF EUROPE: IDENTITY, DIVERSITY AND DIALOGUE The book Culinary Cultures of Europe: Identity, Diversity and Dialogue edited by Darra Goldstein and Kathrin Merkle is a celebration of an enormously rich part of our cultural heritage of everyday life and everyday culture. The volume describes the food of forty European nations in various ways - not every nation is approached from the same aspect, contributions range from folkloric to theoretical. >>> 25. OF WOODS, CITIES AND BORDERS In issue no. 8/9 of ¡Atención!, the Yearbook of the Austrian Latin-America Institute, under the title Of Woods, Cities and Borders – Narration and Cultural Identity-building Processes in Latin America, an international multidisciplinary group of researchers discusses essential aspects of the complex relation between identity and borders in Latin America. >>> 26.
