1.   HYPER-TOURISM: RE-THINKING TRADITION IN TOURISM AND TRAVEL

The tenth conference of the International Association for the Study of Traditional Environments (IASTE), to be held on 15 – 18 December 2006 in Bangkok, Thailand, invites papers addressing the way that the concept of tradition is being transformed in and by tourism and tourists. Abstracts should be submitted by 17 February 2006. >>>

2.   STEEL CITIES: TRADITION, TRANSITION AND TRANSFORMATION

As part of the wider programme of the Steel Cities Conference to be held in Sheffield, UK, on 29 June – 2 July 2006, researchers from all disciplines are invited to reflect upon the function, form and emblematic nature of steel within tourism in past, present and future contexts. Abstracts are accepted until 17 April 2006. >>>

3.   TOURISM AND THE ROOTS / ROUTES OF RELIGIOUS FESTIVITY

The fifth conference of the Journeys of Expression series, to be held in Belfast, UK on 13-15 March 2006, aims to discuss touristic practices in relation to forms of traditional and contemporary religious festivity. Paper proposals should be sent no later than 20 February 2006. >>>

4.   ECONOMICS OF THE PERFORMING ARTS: FUNDAMENTAL MODELS AND CONTEMPORARY VIEWS

Organized by Interstudio, the Federal institute for the Professional Development in Culture, the conference taking place in St. Petersburg, Russia, on 16-19 March 2006, invites experts in the arts, teachers, scholars, members of creative unions and professional associations, officers of the cultural sector and all those interested in the socio-economical problems of culture. Abstracts should be sent by 17 February 2006. >>>

5.   ANALYSIS OF METHODOLOGIES USED BY CULTURAL OBSERVATOIRES AND STATISTICAL CENTRES

This ENCATC Thematic Workshop offering Guidelines for Trainers and Researchers will take place in Bilbao, Spain on 23-24 March 2006. Designed for senior managers to exchange experiences on the European level, it is also open to representatives from international, European, national and regional institutions active in the field. Registration deadline is 10 March 2006. >>>

6.   CLCWeb: CULTURE AND CULTURE POLICY IN THE NEW EUROPEAN UNION

CLCWeb: Comparative Literature and Culture, a peer-refereed full-text scholarly journal of humanities and social sciences, edited and published online, calls for papers for its thematic issue on Culture and Culture Policy in the New European Union. Foci include aspects of culture and culture policy in the eastward enlargement of the European Union. Papers should be sent by 30 March 2006. >>>

7.   IMPACT OF ARTS AND CULTURAL EDUCATION ON YOUNG PEOPLE

Reminder: The final deadline for proposals for papers to the Centre Pompidou international symposium on research carried out into evaluating the impact of arts and cultural education on children and young people is 31 March 2006. >>>

8.   AUTHORS AND BOOKS IN TIHE DIGITAL AGE

Following the publication of a special issue on the culture of book publishing in contemporary Europe, Javnost – The Public, the Journal of the European Institute for Communication and Culture, invites manuscripts that address questions concerning the changing roles of the author and the book in the digital age. 9.   10TH INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE OF THE ISSEI

The European Mind: Narrative and Identity is the title of the 10th International Conference of the International Society for the Study of European Ideas (ISSEI), to be held in cooperation with the University of Malta on 24 – 29 July 2006. Scholars are invited to submit abstracts examining the European identity and the multiplicity of narratives in the age of globalization by 15 April 2006. >>>

10.   ART AND POLITICS: CASE STUDIES FROM EASTERN EUROPE

Organized by the Art Institute of the Vytautas Magnus University, this conference to be held in Kaunas, Lithuania, on 26-27 October 2006, aims to bring together different case studies on art and politics in order to analyze the complex relationship between artistic and political regimes as well as political meanings of art in Soviet and Post-Soviet conditions. >>>

The Asia Europe Foundation announces a Call for Applications for the mapping of cultural resources in Asia as part of its content development strategy for Culture360, a multidisciplinary Asia-Europe cultural Web-portal. Closing date for applications is 24 February 2006. >>>

14.   1ST BALKAN PERFORMING ARTS MARKET

Aiming to promote Balkan artists in the European and international market, the Hellenic Culture Organization invites performing arts organizations, groups and independent artists to participate at the 1st Balkan Performing Arts Market (BPAM), to take place in Thessaloniki, Greece, on 1 – 4 June 2006. 15.   INTERNATIONAL TRUMPET FESTIVAL WALES

Set to take place on 7-9 April 2006 at Swansea University, Wales, UK, the ITFW will offer senior students, under-graduates and graduates an opportunity to explore all forms of trumpet and cornet performance in a fusion of genres from jazz to orchestral. 18.   EUROPOS PARKAS ARTISTS RESIDENTIAL CENTRE PROGRAMME

Europos Parkas, the open-air museum at the very centre of Europe, offers four-week residences taking place three times per year, in May, July and September. The programme is open to artists from various fields who are interested in the exchange of artistic experiences and the acquaintance with Lithuanian culture and traditions. >>>

26.   C R E A T E: ARTS AND CULTURE ORGANIZATIONS ACTIVE WITHIN CEMAC REGION

An initiative to compile a comprehensive list of arts and culture organizations active in the CEMAC region has been launched by the Collective Resources for the Arts and Talents Enrichment (CREATE). Additionally, promoters of arts and cultural events are invited to freely announce their activities at the CREATE website. >>>

27.   CAMBODIA AND LAOS CULTURAL PROFILES LAUNCHED

Visiting Arts has launched two new online international cultural guides – the Cambodia Cultural Profile and the Laos Cultural Profile – marking the completion of the three-country Greater Mekong Cultural Profile Project, sponsored by the Rockefeller Foundation and representing the first major attempt to map the cultural infrastructures of two fascinating yet so far poorly documented countries. >>>

28.   AMA TO MANAGE AEN

Developing its support for arts professionals across Europe, as of January 2006 the Arts Marketing Association (AMA) manages the Audiences Europe Network (AEN), the first Europe-wide network that focuses on audience development. >>>

29.   STATISTICS NEW ZEALAND: EMPLOYMENT IN THE CULTURAL SECTOR AND GOVERNMENT SPENDING ON CULTURE

The publications Employment in the Cultural Sector 2005 and Government Spending on Culture are part of the Cultural Statistics Programme undertaken jointly by the Ministry for Culture and Heritage and Statistics New Zealand. The reports show changes in the levels and distribution of employment in the cultural sector and provide an overview of government support for the arts, culture and heritage sectors in New Zealand at both central and local government levels. >>> and >>>

30.   NATURE OF THE ARTS: NATIONAL ARTS COUNCIL ANNUAL REPORT

The Singapore National Arts Council has published its Annual Report FY 2004/2005 under the title Nature of the Arts – a reflection of the life and vibrancy of Singapore's arts scene and the Council's joint efforts with artists, partners and the community to nurture the environment for the arts. >>>

Both revised and updated 2006 editions of the Performing Arts Yearbook for Europe and the Music, Opera, Dance and Drama in Asia, the Pacific and North America are the most comprehensive guides to the performing arts in their respective regions. >>>

32.   SEMINAR ON FILM INDUSTRIES IN ASIA AND EUROPE

Published by the Asia-Europe Foundation and co-edited by Lars Feilberg, this book is a collection of papers presented at the seminar held in Kuala Lumpur in June 2005. The book contains the basic information on models of support and regulation in various countries that address key issues aiming to create and maintain national film industry to the benefit of cultural diversity, art and entertainment. >>>
