1. REGIONAL SUMMIT FORUM The paper on Communication of Heritage: A New Vision of Southeastern Europe, prepared by UNESCO (BRESCE) and the Culturelink Research Team and presented at the Regional Summit Forum held in Opatija, Croatia on 31 May - 2 June 2006 has been made available for download. At the end of this fourth regional meeting of Heads of States and leaders from Southeastern Europe, the Opatija Joint Declaration on Communication of Heritage was adopted. >>> 2. CULTURAL TRANSITIONS IN SOUTHEASTERN EUROPE The full report from the latest postgraduate course organized by IMO's Department for Culture and Communication entitled Cultural Transitions in Southeastern Europe - The Creative City: Crossing Visions and New Realities in the Region has been made available along with the presentations held at the event. The course took place at the Inter-University Centre (IUC) in Dubrovnik from 8-14 May 2006, and was attended by 39 participants from Europe and the SEE region. >>> 3. OCPA WEBSITE RELAUNCHED Marking the fifth anniversary of its Internet presence, OCPA recently refreshed its web resource centre graphically and technically, while keeping a simple structure and "light" design for users with slower connection speeds. The latest edition of OCPA's regular Web Development Report lines out the progress made so far in the development of this largely bilingual site hosted and maintained by Culturelink. >>> |

5. ESA RESEARCH NETWORK CONFERENCE The organizers of the conference entitled Changing Cultures: European Perspectives, to be held in Ghent, Belgium from 15 – 17 November, invite social scientists dealing with various processes of cultural change to present paper proposals addressing a range of conceptual, methodological and empirical issues by the sociological community and related disciplines. The submission deadline is 15 June 2006. >>> 6. E-GOVERNMENT AND DIGITAL LEARNING INDIA The Centre for Science, Development and Media Studies (CSDMS) invites paper proposals for a joint event of e-Government India, Digital Learning India and Indian Telecentre Forum 2006 to take place in New Delhi from 23 - 25 August 2006. Abstracts submission deadline is 30 June 2006. >>> 7. 3rd LATIN AMERICAN FORUM MEMORY AND IDENTITY This annual intercultural meeting and social project of the Latin American peoples to take place in Montevideo, Uruguay on 26 to 29 October 2006 gathers representatives of social and cultural organizations, academic institutions and ethnic movements to discuss issues of cultural diversity and its influence on social processes. Deadline for proposals is 10 July 2006. >>> 8. 20th WORLD CONGRESS ON DANCE RESEARCH Under the title Promotion of Diversity, this largest gathering of dance specialists worldwide will take place in Athens, Greece from 25 - 29 October 2006, presenting an opportunity to showcase one’s work to a wide audience of practitioners, dance teachers, choreographers, researchers, critics and organizers. The deadline for proposals of research reports, lecture-demonstrations, classes, performances or exhibitions is 15 September 2006. >>> |

9. LONDON CONSORTIUM MULTIDISCIPLINARY POSTGRADUATE COURSES The London Consortium, offering unique multidisciplinary courses in the humanities and cultural studies, is currently accepting applications for the October 2006 entry to its one-year Master of Research and four-year PhD programmes. Submission deadline is 30 June 2006. >>> 10. SOUNDLAB MEMORYSCAPES SoundLAB is looking for submissions of sonic art to its Edition IV to be held within the framework of the Cologne-based soundart event KlangDrang Festival under the theme of Memoryscapes, based upon the subject of memory and identity. The event will take place on 6 and 7 October 2006 and the deadline for entries is 30 June 2006. >>> 11. FUSIC - CREATIVE TOURISM IN BARCELONA The FUSIC foundation, in association with Barcelona Creative Tourism, has launched an appeal to artists who are looking for an environment in Barcelona which is conductive to their creativity. The call is open to all kinds of artists or groups looking for partners, work locations or equipment. >>> 12. 13. BALKANKULT SEMINAR ON CULTURAL DIPLOMACY Following the publication of the book Cultural Diplomacy, the seminar presenting its authors will be held on 22 June 2006 in Belgrade, Serbia, in the presence of European researchers and diplomats. The target audience are experts in the field, representatives of cultural institutions, diplomats and relevant administrative staff. >>> 14. DIGITAL CULTURAL HERITAGE NETWORKS IN EUROPE The workshop entitled Building Bridges with BRICKS, which will take place in Salzburg, Austria, on 23 June 2006, is of particular interest for decision makers in cultural heritage institutions, as it will focus on the potential of networking their digital assets. The workshop will also feature results from BRICK – an EU FP 6 project aiming to build a European Digital Cultural Library. >>> 15. 46th INTERNATIONAL CHILDREN'S FESTIVAL – ŠIBENIK The Festival of Šibenik, to be held between 24 June and 8 July 2006, will feature numerous workshops and debates, theatre performances and puppet shows, films and pantomime, ballet and folk dance, exhibitions and book presentations, all for and by children. >>> 16. ACCR PLENARY MEETING The forthcoming plenary meeting of the European Network of Cultural Centres / Historic Monuments (ACCR) will be hosted at the Chartreuse de Villeneuve lez Avignon in France on 17-20 September 2006. The meeting agenda includes presentations of projects covering heritage, memory and local communities supported through the Culture 2000 Programme, workshops on monuments as a place of translation, and common projects to be developed within the Network. >>> 17. 4th EUROPEAN CONFERENCE OF CREATORS' ORGANIZATIONS Organized by the European Writers’ Congress and hosted by the European Commission under the patronage of the Finnish Presidency, this conference to be held in Brussels on 20 September 2006 under the title Authors’ Rights and the European Agenda 2007-2013 will investigate issues of competitiveness and digital challenges, collective action and cultural diversity. >>> |

18. EUROPEAN FOOD PROJECT Within the framework of the ERICArts' European Food Project, Balkankult is working on a book on Bread Museums in Europe, aiming to promote these museums bearing witness to the culture of bread. The Bread - The Cultural Heritage programme is envisaged as a mosaic of research, information and educational projects, including an Ex Libris competition. >>> 19. ORTEGA Y GASSET WEBSITE RELAUNCHED The Argentinian cultural Foundation Ortega y Gasset recently launched its redesigned website – a more dynamic, interactive site facilitating navigation to the institution's news, activities and publications. >>> |

SEEKING THE SPOILS Using the nom de plume James Eno (to differentiate his novels from his poetry, biographies and cultural policy books), Simon Mundy, a cultural policy adviser for many years, has just published his first novel, in which he uses some of the experience he gained lobbying for the arts at the European Parliament in the 1990s. >>> 21.
