News from the Culturelink Focal Point

1.   DYNAMICS OF COMMUNICATION: NEW WAYS AND NEW ACTORS

Publishing a selection of scientific articles and essays by fifty experts from all parts of the world (Europe, Africa, the Americas, Asia and Australia), the latest addition to the Culturelink Joint Publications Series, edited by Biserka Cvjeticanin, is the result of a joint effort in creating a written record of the lectures and presentations delivered at the Second World Culturelink Conference (Zagreb, Croatia, 2005). The book identifies the new tasks and changing roles of cultural policies related to cultural diversity and the newly emerging digital culture, and calls attention to the impressive phenomenon of new ways and new actors in communication - all of which announces a restructuring of the global cultural space. >>>

2.   VISEGRAD AWARD FOR THE ICC

In appreciation of its support rendered to and the development of cultural co-operation of the countries of Central Europe, the International Cultural Centre and its director, Professor Jacek Purchla were awarded the prestigious Visegrad Award for 2006 at the 16th Meeting of the Ministers for Culture of the Visegrad Group in Budapest, Hungary. The University of New York in Skopje announces an international 3-day conference entitled (G)Local Media in Transition – The Case of South-Eastern Europe 1990-2007, to take place in Skopje, FYRM from 8-10 March 2007. The deadline for the receipt of papers is 20 January 2007. >>>

6.   CULTURAL MANAGEMENT AND THE STATE OF THE FIELD

The Cultural Management Program at Humak University of Applied Sciences in Helsinki, Finland invites 20 academics and practitioners to participate in the first of a series of symposia on cultural management topics, to be held on 19-20 April 2007. Application deadline is 31 January 2007. >>>

The international conference Finances and Culture 2007, with the theme of Sponsorship and Fundraising in Art and Culture focusing on Russia and CIS, will take place on 4-5 July 2007 in London, UK. Deadline for submissions is 01 February 2007. >>>

8.   12TH INTERNATIONAL METROPOLIS CONFERENCE

On 8-10 October 2007, the annual International Metropolis Conference will be held for the first time in the Southern Hemisphere – in Melbourne, Australia. Deadline for workshop proposals focusing on migration and diversity issues is 15 February 2007. >>>

9.   CULTURAL POLICY MAKING IN POST-COMMUNIST COUNTRIES

Cultural Policy Making in Post-Communist Countries is an intensive summer course which will run from 16-27 July 2007 at the Central European University, Budapest, Hungary, focusing on the modernisation of cultural policies in the countries of post-communist transition. The deadline for applications is 14 February 2007. >>>

10.   CULTURE AS RESOURCE: CULTURE AND DEMOCRACY IN THE GLOBAL SYSTEM

An intensive graduate summer course on Culture as Resource: Culture and Democracy in the Global System will be held at the Central European University, Budapest, Hungary on 16-27 July 2007, aiming to investigate the transformations in the sphere of cultural consumption and production in the context of globalization. Applications deadline is 14 February 2007. >>>

11.   INTERNATIONAL ARTISTS RESIDENCIES

The Hungarian Multicultural Center (HMC) invites professional visual artists and writers worldwide to submit applications for its international residency programmes to take place in Csopak, Hungary, on 21 May – 13 June, 18 June – 11 July, and 16 July – 8 August 2007 respectively. Submissions deadline is 15 February 2007. >>>

12.   ANNA LINDH EURO-MEDITERRANEAN FOUNDATION

The Anna Lindh Euro-Mediterranean Foundation for the Dialogue between Cultures is seeking proposals for activities and initiatives that support intercultural dialogue in the 37 Euro-Mediterranean countries. The two deadlines for submission of proposals in 2007 are 1 March and 1 June. >>>

13.   DURBAN INTERNATIONAL FILM FESTIVAL

South Africa's longest running film festival, the Durban International Film Festival, calls for entries to its 28th edition to take place from 20 June to 1 July 2007. The deadline for short films and documentaries is 1 March 2007 and for feature films 15 March 2007. >>>

14.   PERFORMING THE WORLD 4

Performing the World 4 - The Performance of Community and the Community of Performance will be held in Tarrytown House, Tarrytown, NY, USA on 12-14 October 2007. Session proposals are due 15 March 2007. >>>

15.   2007 UNESCO ASIA-PACIFIC HERITAGE AWARDS

Entries are now being accepted for the 2007 UNESCO Asia-Pacific Heritage Awards for Culture Heritage Conservation. The deadline for the receipt of materials is 31 March 2007. >>>

16.   INTERNATIONAL VIOLIN MASTERCOURSE

The Keshet Eilon International Violin Mastercourse, under patronage of Maestro Shlomo Mintz is to take place in Kibbutz Eilon, Israel, on 27 July - 15 August 2007. Auditions will be held in March/April 2007. >>>

17.   CULTURAL POLICY RESEARCH AWARD 2007

The Cultural Policy Research Award 2007 for applied comparative cultural policy research is now open for applications to be submitted by 1 May 2007. Eligible for the EUR10,000 award are young academics, researchers and policymakers aged 35 or under. >>>

Within the context of Germany's 2007 Presidency of the European Council, the German Commission for UNESCO is organising an international conference entitled Cultural Diversity - Europe's Wealth. Bringing the UNESCO Convention to Life, to be held on 26-28 April 2007 in Essen, Germany, the European Capital of Culture 2010. >>>

20.   EUROPE METROPOLES NETWORK ANNUAL MEETING

The third annual meeting of the Europe Metropoles Network, to be held in Paris, France on 23-24 March 2007, will bring together ideas and experiences for the effective management of emerging problems related to ill-conceived urban development. Registration deadline is 28 February 2007. >>>

The 47th edition of the Festival Rose d'Or, hosting the most prestigious international awards for entertainment television programmes and representing a cultural and business rendezvous for the onscreen entertainment community, will take place on the shores of Lake Lucerne, Switzerland, on 5–9 May 2007. >>>

COMEDIA, Europe's leading cultural planning consultancy, has published a report commissioned by the Academy for Sustainable Communities entitled Planning and Engaging with International Communities. >>>

28.   TELEVISION IN 36 EUROPEAN STATES

Under the title Television in 36 European States, the European Audiovisual Observatory (EAO) and the Council of Europe have published the first of three volumes of EAO's trilingual Yearbook 2006: Film, Television and Video in Europe, offering individual country profiles, including fact sheets with all basic figures and syntheses of recent trends in the audiovisual sector. >>>

29.   50 YEARS OF AUSTRALIAN TELEVISION

Published shortly after the Australian parliament passed sweeping changes to media laws in October 2006, the latest issue of Media International Australia incorporating Culture and Policy (MIA), edited by Liz Jacka and Sue Turnbull, is devoted to 50 Years of Australian Television. >>>
