1.   IN MEMORIAM

Dear Friends, dear Culturelink Members,
it is with great sorrow that we received the sad news of the passing away of Mark Schuster, Professor of Urban Cultural Policy at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and leading expert in the field of cultural policy. Mark Schuster was among the first members of the Culturelink Network, when it was founded in 1990, and in those early days, together with his French colleagues, Augustin Girard (whom he always considered his mentor) and Geneviève Gentil, he lent valuable support to the conception and operation of Culturelink, and especially the Culturelink review in which he cooperated.
Professor Schuster contributed greatly to the affirmation of arts and cultural policies in the overall development on both the national and the international levels. His death is a great loss for the cultural research community, and for all of us who deeply respected him both privately and professionally. He will be greatly missed.
