ATTRACTIONS AND EVENTS AS CATALYSTS FOR REGENERATION AND SOCIAL CHANGE The Christel DeHaan Tourism & Travel Research Institute (TTRI), University of Nottingham and the Centre for Tourism and Cultural Change (CTCC), Leeds Metropolitan University invite papers to their conference entitled Attractions and Events as Catalysts for Regeneration and Social Change, to be held in Nottingham, UK, on 24-25 September 2008. The deadline for submission of abstracts is Friday 13 June 2008. >>> 2. I INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE ON INTERCULTURAL STUDIES The Centre for Intercultural Studies (CEI) of the Polytechnic Institute of Oporto's School of Accounting and Administration (ISCA-IPP) invites researchers with an active interest in intercultural studies to submit 20 minute paper proposals in Portuguese, English, French, German or Spanish by 15 June 2008 to the I International Conference on Intercultural Studies, to be held in Oporto, Portugal on 9 December 2008. >>> 3. INVENTION, INNOVATION, IMPACT ICT2008, the largest research event in Europe in 2008, to be held in Lyon, France, on 25-27 November 2008, will examine the European Union priorities in ICT research. Researchers, innovators and engineers from all ICT fields are invited to suggest pertinent themes. Deadline for submissions is 16 June 2008. >>> 4. CFC MEDIA LAB TELUS INTERACTIVE ART & ENTERTAINMENT PROGRAMME The CFC Media Lab is currently accepting applications for the Fall 2008 session of the TELUS Interactive Art & Entertainment Program (IAEP), a five-month, post-graduate residency focused on creating inventive interactive narrative projects for the Canadian and international marketplace. Application deadline is 20 June 2008. >>> 6. KÜNSTLERHÄUSER WORPSWEDE ARTIST-IN-RESIDENCE GRANTS 2009 The Künstlerhäuser Worpswede, one of the largest residencies in Germany have launched a call for applications for their 2009 Artist-in-Residence Grants of up to 6 months. Application deadline is 10 July 2008. >>> 7. ARAB FUND FOR ARTS & CULTURE - GRANTS PROGRAMME Aiming at simulating and supporting artistic creativity and freedom of cultural expression in the Arab World, the Arab Fund for Arts & Culture (AFAC) invites project proposals to its grants programme from individuals, NGOs, cultural and educational organizations, governmental bodies and private companies working in culture and arts in the Arab World by 30 September 2008. >>> 8. 2009 EUROPA NOSTRA AWARDS Europa Nostra Awards, the 2009 EU Prize for Cultural Heritage, awarded for architectural heritage, cultural landscapes, works of art and collections of artistic and historic significance, archaeological sites, industrial and engineering heritage, calls for entries in the categories of conservation, research, dedicated service by individuals or organisations, and education, training and awareness-raising. Closing date is 1 October 2008. >>> 9. INTERNATIONAL MUSICAL FESTIVAL The Llangollen International Musical Eisteddfod is inviting musicians from all over the world to participate at this famed musical festival in Llangollen, Wales, on 7–12 July 2009. SYDNEY COLLEGE OF THE ARTS (SCA) GRADUATE APPLICATIONS The Sydney College of the Arts (SCA), the visual arts faculty of the University of Sydney, invites graduate applications for its March 2009 research degrees and coursework masters by 31 October 2008. >>> 12. UNESCO CONVENTION ON CULTURAL DIVERSITY The conference entitled The UNESCO Convention on Cultural Diversity: First Assessment and Legal Challenges for the Achievement of the Convention' Objectives in Economically Destitute Countries, to be held in Paris, France on 18-19 June 2008, aiming to encourage a debate on fundamental topics. >>> 15. 4TH INTERNATIONAL FESTIVAL OF MAKING THEATER The Theater of Changes invites, actors, directors, drama school students, dancers, choreographers, singers, acting, voice and movement teachers to attend the workshops of the 4th International Festival of Making Theater (In.F.o.Ma.T.), to be held in Athens, Greece, on 6-13 July 2008. ELIA'S 10TH BIENNIAL CONFERENCE The European League of Institutes of the Arts' (ELIA) 10th Biennial Conference, to be held in Gothenburg, Sweden, on 29 September - 01 October 2008, will focus on the future role of higher arts education institutions and their relationship with our changing societies. >>> 21. 32ND URBAN DEVELOPMENT CONGRESS The International Urban Development Association's (INTA) 32nd Annual Congress, to take place in Riga, Latvia, on 26-29 October 2008, puts the focus on strategies of cooperation in order to foster territorial competitiveness on global and regional scales. >>> 22. 7TH EUROPEAN CONFERENCE ON E-LEARNING The 7th European Conference on e-Learning will be held in Agia Napa,Cyprus, on 6-7 November 2008, offering an opportunity for those involved in the study, implementation and delivery of e-learning to meet and exchange ideas and experiences. >>> |

23. REGIONAL FUNDS FOR THE PROMOTION OF COOPERATION AND CULTURAL EXCHANGES IN WEST AFRICA Launching its activities, the Regional Funds for the Promotion of Cooperation and Cultural Exchanges in West Africa, set up by ECOWAS and UEMOA, calls for expression of interest for the evaluation of projects submitted to it. The overall objective of the project is to support the development of exchanges, networks and cooperation between the cultural actors of countries within the region. >>> 24. NETWORKED CULTURES Based at Goldsmiths, University of London, Networked Cultures investigates the cultural transformations under way in Europe through examining the potentials and effects of networked spatial practices. The project collaborates with art, architectural and urban practices across Europe and beyond. >>> 25. EFAH BECOMES CULTURE ACTION EUROPE Symbolizing a shift in emphasis in its work, towards a more activist, engaged and communicative organisation, the European Forum on Arts and Heritage (EFAH) is changing its name to Culture Action Europe and launching a new website at www.cultureactioneurope.org. 26. CULTURESCOPE.CA IS DISCONTINUED The Culturescope.ca interactive portal of the Canadian Cultural Observatory has been discontinued since April 2008 as a result of a Strategic Review of the Government of Canada programmes and activities, reflecting the changing conditions in the public digital and online environment. The site will be maintained for the next several months until it is taken offline and archived. >>> 27. CULTUREWATCHEUROPE The Steering Committee for Culture of the Council of Europe recently approved a new cultural governance observatory scheme named CultureWatchEurope, aiming to provide a platform for exchange between governments and civil society in a common effort to help raise consciousness of cultural rights and responsibilities as related to democratic practice and societal progress. >>> 28. APOLLONIA EUROPEAN ART EXCHANGES ANNIVERSARY Apollonia European Art Exchanges, an association established within the framework of the Programme of European Artistic Exchanges, marks its tenth anniversary. Today it defines itself as a platform of cooperation in the area of the visual arts between European countries and with the countries of Central and Eastern Europe, the Balkans, the Baltic Sea and South Caucasus. >>> |

REVOLUTION OR RENAISSANCE: MAKING THE TRANSITION FROM AN ECONOMIC AGE TO A CULTURAL AGE Recently published by the University of Ottawa Press, Revolution or Renaissance: Making the Transition from an Economic Age to a Cultural Age, by Culturelink member D. Paul Schafer, is based on the conviction that humanity needs to pass out of the present economic age and into a future cultural age if environmental sustainability, human well-being, economic viability, and global harmony are to be achieved. >>> 30. A CULTURAL DIMENSION TO THE EU'S EXTERNAL POLICIES A survey by the Boekman Foundation entitled A Cultural Dimension to the EU's External Policies explores the possibility of introducing a more enhanced cultural component to EU's foreign policy as well as the willingness of member states to support such a project. >>> 31. STATE ON STAGE A new survey by the Boekman Foundation, entitled State on Stage, explores the impact of public policies on the performing arts in Europe. >>> 32. BOEKMAN FOUNDATION ANNUAL REPORT The famed Dutch study centre for arts, culture and related policy published its annual report for the year 2007, reviewing last year's activities. >>> 33. THE CULTURAL AND CREATIVE INDUSTRIES: A REVIEW OF THE LITERATURE The report The Cultural and Creative Industries: A Review of the Literature, written by Justin O'Connor from the School of Performance and Cultural Industries at The University of Leeds, offers a thorough overview of literature that deals with the relationship between culture and economics. >>> |
