1. 18th International Conference on Cultural Economics The Association for Cultural Economics International (ACEI) will hold its 18th International Conference on the theme of Connecting Conversations at the École des sciences de la gestion de l'Université du Québec à Montréal (ESG-UQAM) in Montreal, Canada, on 24-27 June 2014. Abstract submissions are being accepted for research covering all areas related to the Economics of Culture. Abstract submission deadline is 31 January 2014. >>> 2. REFLECTION ON CREATIVITY: PUBLIC ENGAGEMENT AND THE MAKING OF PLACE The Fifth Arte-Polis International Conference and Workshop will be organised in Bandung, Indonesia, on 8-9 August 2014. Its objective is to share and learn the reflection of creativity from international and local experiences regarding current issues, best practices and policy implications of public engagement on place-making. The deadline for abstract submissions is 10 February 2014. >>> 3. INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE ON MAPPING CULTURE: COMMUNITIES, SITES AND STORIES The Centre for Social Studies / Centro de Estudos Sociais, is organizing an international conference on Mapping Culture: Communities, Sites and Stories, to be held in Coimbra, Portugal, on 28-30 May 2014. The conference is intended to explore both conventional and alternative approaches to mapping cultures and communities in an international context. The deadline for submitting abstracts is 14 February 2014. >>> 4. EPIPHANY JOURNAL: CALL FOR PAPERS ON EDUCATION, CULTURE AND IDENTITY Epiphany, the Journal of Transdisciplinary Studies, invites scholars interested in transcending classical scholarship to submit their manuscripts for the forthcoming special issue entitled Education, Culture and Identity. The deadline for the full article submission is 1 April 2014. >>> 5. INTERDISCIPLINARY CONFERENCE ON CHALLENGES The Association of History, Literature, Science and Technology (AHLiST) is organising an interdisciplinary conference with the general topic on Challenges, to be held at the University of Cartagena, Cartagena de Indias, Colombia, on 20-23 November 2014. The conference will focus on how societies are responding to the permanent and increasing challenges which they are currently facing at all levels. 6. PRINCE CLAUS FUND: CULTURE IN DEFIANCE Through this call, the Prince Claus Fund supports projects that strive for positive change by creating opportunities of freedom of speech and thought. It seeks creative and innovative ideas that promote equality and opportunity. Support is given to individuals and organisations in Africa, Asia, Latin America and the Caribbean. The deadline for applications is 28 February 2014. >>> 7. REMINDER: CALL FOR PROPOSALS OF THE CREATIVE EUROPE PROGRAMME The Culture sub-programme of Creative Europe supports cultural and creative organisations with a view to helping them operate transnationally and promoting cross-border circulation of works of culture and mobility of cultural players. The submission deadline for European networks is 19 March 2014. >>> 8. UDK AWARD FOR INTERDISCIPLINARY ART AND SCIENCE 2014 The Universität der Künste Berlin is announcing its competition, the UdK Award for Interdisciplinary Art and Science 2014, which aims to give the impetus and opportunity to artists (fine art, media, architecture, design, music, theatre, visual communication etc.) and scientists to work between the priorities of the arts, or between the arts and science. The deadline for submissions is 31 March 2014. >>> 9. INTERNATIONAL AWARD UCLG - MEXICO CITY - CULTURE 21 The Committee on Culture of the United Cities and Local Government (UCLG) has announced the opening of the International Award UCLG - MEXICO City - Culture 21. The objective of this award is to recognize leading cities and people that have distinguished themselves through their contribution to culture as a dimension of sustainable development. The deadline for the submission of projects is 31 March 2014. >>> 10. ASIA-EUROPE MUSEUM EDUCATORS GRANT PROGRAMME 2015 The ASEMUS Exchange of Museum Educators Grant Programme enhances professional development of museum educators in Asia and Europe and strengthens connections and cultural understanding between the two regions. 11. SOMA SUMMER 2014 SOMA Summer is a unique eight-week programme for visual artists, art historians, and curators conducted in English in Mexico City, Mexico. SOMA Summer is part of SOMA, an experimental pedagogical project launched in 2010, conceived to promote discussion and exchange in the field of contemporary art. The goal is to produce a counterpoint to the dynamics of art schools, museums, and galleries. Application deadline is 31 March 2014. >>> 12. MaHKU MA FINE ART MaHKU, the Utrecht Graduate School of Visual Art and Design, offers a one-year Master of Arts (MA) programme, which consists of seminars, workshops, studios, and tutorials in which artists, architects, curators, designers and various theorists share their knowledge, creativity and professional insights with the students. The final deadline is 30 April 2014. >>> 13. HERITAGE, CULTURE AND TOURISM STUDY PROGRAMME 2014 Organised by Public Administration International (PAI), London, a one-week UK-based Heritage, Culture and Tourism: Policy and Practice for Maximising Results study programme, designed mainly for policy-makers and senior experts working in government ministries and agencies and in non-governmental organisations concerned with the management and funding of heritage conservation and tourism, is scheduled to run from 16 to 20 June 2014. >>> |

INTERNATIONAL PERSPECTIVES ON PARTICIPATION AND ENGAGEMENT IN THE ARTS The conference International Perspectives on Participation and Engagement in the Arts will be held in Utrecht, the Netherlands, on 20 - 21 June 2014, aiming to draw together current research and practice internationally to assess the relevance of the participation and engagement agenda for professional arts and cultural heritage organisations, voluntary arts organisations, and policy makers at local and national level. >>> 15. NETWORKS IN THE GLOBAL WORLD 2014 The idea of the international conference on Bridging Theory and Method: American, European, and Russian Studies is to discuss the key current issues and problems of linking theoretical and methodological developments in network analysis. As a provisional disclosure of the state of the art within specific constituencies, this publication seeks to service many different agendas and projects by demonstrating the lived contradictions of what is simultaneously both an emerging and fully formed domain of research education. >>> 18. CULTURE ET EUROREGIONS. LA COOPERATION CULTURELLE ENTRE REGIONS EUROPEENNES This is a new book on European regions and cultural cooperation, written by Thomas Perrin, deals with cultural policy in the framework of the Euroregions. .In a time when the budget and modalities of the European regional policy for 2014-2020 are being negotiated, this work opens stimulating perspectives regarding the role of Euroregions in the construction of a Europe of regions and of culture. >>> 19. REBALANCING OUR CULTURAL CAPITAL Over the past two months, this report prompted many reactions and reflections in the UK and beyond. While it is interesting as it reflects on imbalances in arts funding in the UK, the report might serve as an inspiration for reflection and debates in other countries where there is a concern over financing for big metropolitan cities in comparison with other cities and regions. >>> 20. EUROPEAN CAPITAL OF CULTURE - SUCCESS STRATEGIES AND LONG TERM EFFECTS This report, written by Beatriz Garcia, documents common approaches and success strategies, highlights the strongest claims of long-term effect and analyses recurrent challenges that limit this Programme's ability to reach its full potential.
