Expanding an Expert Facility for the Implementation of the 2005 Convention

From its very inception, one of the principal objectives of Culturelink, the Network of Networks established by UNESCO, has been the promotion of the diversity of cultural expressions. Thus, Culturelink is pleased to announce the UNESCO call for expression of interest in the Expert Facility aimed at supporting the implementation of the UNESCO 2005 Convention of the Diversity of Cultural Expressions.

UNESCO has launched a call for expression of interest in the Expert Facility aimed at supporting capacity development initiatives for the implementation of the 2005 Convention on the Protection and Promotion of the Diversity of Cultural Expressions, open until 20 March 2015 (midnight CET).

The purpose of this open call is to renew and diversify the Expert Facility established in 2011 in the context of a European Union funded project in developing countries aimed at "Strengthening the System of Governance for Culture in Developing Countries", both in terms of expertise and equitable geographical representation (experts from Arab States, Africa and Asia-Pacific are currently underrepresented).

The Expert Facility will be solicited, based on the needs and priorities identified by the governing bodies of the Convention as well as by developing countries, to deliver country-level assistance in different thematic areas of the Convention and through different modalities (workshops, advisory technical assistance, short- and long-term capacity-building interventions, mentoring, coaching, etc).

Professionals are sought with a minimum of 10 years of experience in the field of cultural and creative industries relating to: institutional organization of the creative sector; development and implementation of overall policies, strategies, regulatory frameworks; implementation of international cooperation projects; financing as well as cultural entrepreneurship development developing and strengthening a specific sector; data collection in the cultural and creative sector as well as developing sectoral mappings.

Specialization in one of the following fields will be given priority attention: cultural statistics and indicators; trade; digitization; media diversity; status of the artist and freedom of artistic expression; preferential treatment and mobility.

Applicants may be: civil servants, governmental experts, cultural operators, managers of cultural institutions or associations, researchers, academics and/or independent experts specialized in the required fields. Applications from women candidates and from Africa, Arab States and Asia-Pacific regions are strongly encouraged.

2.   CITIES IN A CLIMATE OF CHANGE: PUBLIC ART AND ENVIRONMENTAL AND SOCIAL ECOLOGIES

The 2015 International Award for Public Art (IAPA) exhibition and conference will take place in Auckland, New Zealand, on 30 June to 4 July 2015. The conference entitled Cities in a Climate of Change: Public Art and Environmental and Social Ecologies will investigate the ways that public art can contribute to the social and environmental development of cities. 3.   EUROPEAN CULTURE CONFERENCE

The European Studies Institute of the University of Piura, Peru and the Babes-Bolyai University, Cluj-Napoca, Romania, invite you to the 13th European Culture Conference, which will take place in Cluj-Napoca, Romania, on 29 - 31 October 2015 at the Faculty of European Studies (Babes-Bolyai University). The dialogue between academics, experienced lecturers and young researchers is at the core of the conference structure. Deadline for abstracts: 31 March 2015. >>>

4.   SEVENTH EUROPEAN WORKSHOP ON APPLIED CULTURAL ECONOMICS

The Austrian Institute of Economic Research (WIFO), Vienna, Austria is organising the Seventh European Workshop on Applied Cultural Economics in Vienna, to be held on 4 - 5 September 2015. Participation of interested researchers and policy makers from all countries is welcome. The deadline for submitting completed draft papers is 31 May 2015. >>>

The International Social Science Council (ISSC) and its partners are inviting applications for proposals for Transformative Knowledge Networks for the recently launched Transformations to Sustainability Programme, seeking to address global sustainability challenges by supporting research on the complex processes of social transformation. 6.   ZIFF RELAUNCHES SEMBENE OUSMANE PRIZE

The Zanzibar International Film Festival (ZIFF) is the longest running film festival in East Africa, with global credibility and instant Pan-African recognition. It will take place in Zanzibar, Tanzania, on 18 - 26 July 2015. The Sembene Ousmane Film Prize invites Africans and the African diaspora to enter their short films into the competition before 31 March 2015. >>>

7.   RURBAN ARTSTRUCTIONS: CALL FOR ENTRIES FOR CREATIVE VISIONARIES

Rurban Artstructions is an international project that brings artists of all levels and disciplines together with development experts focusing on the importance of sustainable development with an emphasis on soil. Artists and advocates are invited to reflect on the Rurban Artstructions themes and present related works. The deadline for submissions is 5 June 2015. >>>

13.   REPORT ON THE DEVELOPMENT OF ENTREPRENEURSHIP IN THE CULTURAL SECTOR IN FRANCE

In 2014, the French Minister of Culture and Communication and the French Minister of Economy commissioned Steven Hearn, cofounder and president of Scintillo, to report on the development of entrepreneurship in the cultural sector in France and its perspectives of development. Based on interviews, the report explores the existing obstacles and difficulties met by creative entrepreneurs when starting and developing their company. It highlights the specificities of cultural startups and calls for an immediate change in the ways private and public actors consider creative entrepreneurs and evaluate their profitability. The report also formulates eight practical recommendations to be implemented by public authorities to foster the development of cultural entrepreneurship. >>>

This publication is a tribute to 25 years of the European Diploma of Cultural Management, run by the Association Marcel Hicter.
