EU Competences and National Cultural Policies: Critical Dialogues The Department for Culture and Communication of the Institute for Development and International Relations (IRMO), headquarters of the Culturelink Network, is coordinating a two-year Jean Monnet project entitled EU Competences and National Cultural Policies: Critical Dialogues (CULPOL), co-funded by the Erasmus+ Programme. The project will be implemented between September 2016 and August 2018. The primary aim of the project is to raise interest in EU related topics and to promote discussion and reflection on the impact of the EU agenda on the Croatian cultural policy. The project will contribute to the establishment of closer cooperation and networking among members of the Croatian cultural policy research community, cultural professionals and policy-makers responsible for the implementation of the different EU instruments and agendas. In addition to organizing a series of networking meetings, promotional events, and building a web platform, the main activities on the project include:
The project events and activities will be open to academia, researchers, cultural professionals and policy-makers, while special focus will be put on the engagement of postgraduate students and young professionals. The project related research activities will be presented through an electronic CULPOL Issue Papers series, making the research of the project stakeholders more visible and accessible to all interested parties. 1. CALL FOR CONTRIBUTIONS FOR THE /ENCATCSCHOLAR ON CULTURAL MANAGEMENT EDUCATION IN RISK SOCIETIES ENCATC, the European Network on Cultural Management and Policy, is calling for contributions to its online publication, issue #07 of the /encatcSCHOLAR, which will focus on Cultural Management Education in Risk Societies. The organisers want to explore what consequences risk society has for education in general and for cultural management education. The deadline for proposals is 10 December 2016. >>> 2. TRACES PROJECT: CALL FOR PAPERS The TRACES Project - Transmitting Contentious Cultural Heritages with the Arts: From Intervention to Co-Production - investigates the challenges and opportunities raised when transmitting complex pasts and the role of difficult heritage in contemporary Europe. The outcomes of the research and items for discussion can be shared within the TRACES Journal. The project calls for papers for the third issue of TRACES Journal, to be published in May 2017. The deadline for submissions is 9 January 2017. >>> 3. CONFERENCE ON THE STATE OF THE ART IN CREATIVE TOURISM The international conference The State of the Art in Creative Tourism: Leading Research, Advanced Practices, Future Trajectories will be held in Coimbra, Portugal on 1 - 2 June 2017. This conference is organized within the project CREATOUR: Creative Tourism Destination Development in Small Cities and Rural Areas. The deadline for submissions is 14 February 2017. >>> |

4. ENCC PROGRAMME ON BRIDGE BETWEEN EUROPEAN CULTURAL CENTRES A call for participation in the European Network of Cultural Centres (ENCC) programme entitled Bridge between European Cultural Centres (BECC) 2016/2017 is open. ENCC invites new staff from European cultural centres to join the BECC learning experience. The deadline for submitting applications is 31 December 2016. >>> 5. 2017 CREATIVE CLIMATE LEADERSHIP TRAINING Creative Climate Leadership is a new programme for artists and cultural professionals to explore the cultural dimensions of climate change and take action with impact, creativity and resilience. The Creative Climate Leadership training will take place in Machynlleth, Wales, United Kingdom on 27 - 31 March 2017. The deadline for applications is 16 January 2017. >>> 6. CHANGE OF SCENE - INTERNATIONAL ARTISTIC COOPERATION FOR THE PERFORMING ARTS Change of Scene is a grant programme of the Robert Bosch Stiftung in cooperation with the German Centre of the International Theatre Institute (ITI). This call for applications is directed at civic and state theatres as well as independent companies from the German-speaking realm (Germany, Austria or Switzerland) who wish to develop a new artistic project with a partner from North Africa or Eastern Europe. The deadline for submission is 15 February 2017. >>> 7. LAND ART COMPETITION 2017 Nka Foundation, a non-profit organization in the United States focusing on the arts for human capital development, invites submissions from creative practitioners and organizations dedicated to community placemaking to participate in its 2017 Land Art Competition. The construction site will be Abetenim Arts Village, near Kumasi in the Ashanti Region of Ghana. Submissions must be received by the competition organizers no later than 15 February 2017. >>> |

8. THEATRE ACADEMY, UNIVERSITY OF THE ARTS HELSINKI The University of the Arts Helsinki's Theatre Academy provides the highest education in the performing arts in Finland. At the Theatre Academy, art, performance, training and research are in constant interaction. In 2017, the Theatre Academy holds international admissions to Master's Degree Programmes in Choreography, Dance Performance and Live Art and Performance Studies. Application period: 10 - 25 January 2017. >>> 9. VISUAL AND DIGITAL ARTS PROGRAMMES AT THE BANFF CENTRE FOR ARTS AND CREATIVITY Visual and Digital Arts programmes at the Banff Centre for Arts and Creativity, Canada, offer opportunities for artists to engage with world-renowned faculty and peers to gain new insights into the development of their work. Intercult dedicates a whole week to audience development by presenting the conference Audience Links X-change, to be held in Stockholm, Sweden on 20 - 24 February 2017. >>> 11. ENCATC ANNUAL ACADEMY ON INTERNATIONAL CULTURAL RELATIONS The 6th Academy on International Cultural Relations organised by ENCATC, the European Network on Cultural Management and Policy, will be held in Brussels, Belgium on 27 - 28 March 2017. This Academy is an intensive learning programme for senior and medium-level professionals in the area of international cultural relations. >>> 12. EUROPEAN HERITAGE CONGRESS 2017 Focusing on Social Participation in Heritage Protection, the 2017 European Heritage Congress to be held in Turku, Finland on 10 - 14 May 2017, is organised by Europa Nostra, the leading heritage organisation in Europe, in cooperation with its country representation, Europa Nostra Finland, and other members and partners from Finland. >>> |

Mulcahy places the study of public support for the arts and culture within the prism of public policy making. >>> 15. THE INTA INITIATIVE FOR HABITAT III: CITIES AND TERRITORIES IN TRANSFORMATION - 2016 As a contribution to the UN Habitat 3rd World Conference on Housing and Sustainable Development, the International Urban Development Association (INTA) released the report Cities and Territories in Transformation - 2016, presenting a vision of the future urban world in order to contribute to the new urban agenda for the next twenty years. >>> 16. THE GLOBALISATION OF CULTURAL TRADE: A SHIFT IN CONSUMPTION The report by the UNESCO Institute for Statistics (UIS) entitled The Globalisation of Cultural Trade: A Shift in Consumption - International Flows of Cultural Goods and Services 2004 - 2013 presents the results of the analysis of international cultural trade data for the given period. The report also aims to shed light on the impact that the global financial and economic crisis of 2008 has had on the flows of cultural goods and services. >>> 17. THE LIBRARIES AND MUSEUMS OF EUROPE IN TIMES OF CHANGE The Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe published the resolution The Libraries and Museums of Europe in Times of Change as a recommendation and advice to European Parliament and EU member states to protect culture and heritage infrastructure for the benefit of future generations. >>> 18.
