Conference Announcement Perspectives of National Cultural Policy Development in the EU Context: Critical Dialogues IRMO's Department for Culture and Communication (focal point of Culturelink) is organizing an international conference on Perspectives of National Cultural Policy Development in the EU Context: Critical Dialogues, to be held in Zagreb, Croatia, on 18 - 19 May 2017. Taking place within the framework of activities of the Jean Monnet project on EU Competences and National Cultural Policies: Critical Dialogues (CULPOL), the conference intends to contribute to enhancing knowledge about relevant cultural policy processes at the European Union level. By bringing together researchers, cultural professionals and policy-makers, the conference will foster dialogue between different cultural-policy stakeholders, putting into the spotlight the need for the sustainability of culture, as well as the fact that there is no sustainable development without culture. The conference aims to address a pivotal question - whether it is time for a paradigm shift in cultural policies and what the possible ways forward are. IRMO/Culturelink invites researchers, cultural professionals, artists, cultural workers and policy-makers to share their knowledge, concerns and visions. The conference will tackle different challenges for EU and national cultural policies today. It will be organized in a form that will allow plenty of discussions. In addition to two keynote speeches addressing issues of cultural policies at EU and national levels, the main issues dealt with in the sessions will be:

1. ARTIVATE - A JOURNAL OF ENTREPRENEURSHIP IN THE ARTS Artivate - A Journal of Entrepreneurship in the Arts of the Arizona State University is partnering with the Kresge Foundation to produce its first-ever special issue, focused on Arts Entrepreneurship and Creative Placemaking. The deadline for paper submissions is 15 April 2017. >>> 2. INTERCULTURAL RELATIONS IN ARTS AND CULTURAL MANAGEMENT HIGHER EDUCATION The seminar, organized by the international and interdisciplinary network Brokering Intercultural Exchange, will be held at the Zurich University of the Arts, Switzerland, on 6 - 7 July 2017, aiming to explore how historical, institutional and social assumptions and traditions of arts and cultural management are exchanged and reproduced through the intercultural exchanges that take place in arts and cultural management training and education. The deadline for the submission of papers is 20 April 2017. >>> 3. INTERARTIVE: MALTA - CULTURE IN TRANSFORMATION The focus of a special issue of InterArtive, an online monthly journal and a cultural association from Barcelona, Spain, is the contemporary cultural development of Malta. As the cultural context in transformation needs a constant examination and the contribution of new and diverse perspectives, InterArtive invites scholars, critics, curators and artists to submit texts and art projects by 30 April 2017. >>> |

4. CULTURAL DIPLOMACY PLATFORM - GLOBAL CULTURAL LEADERSHIP PROGRAMME The Cultural Diplomacy Platform launches a call for applications for the Global Cultural Leadership Programme (GCLP 2017), which aims to improve the skills of cultural managers as well as develop collaborative peer-to-peer learning and network building. The second GCLP will take place in Athens, Greece, on 19 - 23 June 2017. The deadline for applications is 25 March 2017. >>> 5. AUSTRALIAN CULTURAL DIPLOMACY GRANTS PROGRAMME 2017 The Australian Cultural Diplomacy Grants Programme (ACDGP) is intended to support projects that engage audiences, establish ongoing networks and promote collaboration and exchange. The ACDGP is an annual, competitive grant round open to Australian residents, groups and individuals, however foreign organisations can partner with an Australian applicant who will undertake the application and administer the grant. The deadline for applications is 12 April 2017. >>> 6. LUXEMBOURG ART PRIZE 2017 The Luxembourg Art Prize is an annual international competition aiming to discover talents, amateur or professional, regardless of age and nationality. The ambition of the Prize is to accelerate the careers of unknown artists by providing them with professional art gallery space. The deadline for applications is 31 May 2017. >>> 7. UNESCO CREATIVE CITIES NETWORK (UCCN) Created in 2004, the UNESCO Creative Cities Network (UCCN) fosters international cooperation with and between cities that have identified creativity as a strategic driver and enabler for sustainable urban regeneration and development. 8. GLOBAL CULTURAL FELLOWS The Institute for International Cultural Relations (IICR) at the University of Edinburgh, Scotland invites applications for the Global Cultural Fellows programme for the academic year 2017-2018. The Global Cultural Fellows will explore cultural interests and values. The deadline for applications is 15 March 2017. >>> 9. THE FESTIVAL ACADEMY: FIRST ATELIER FOR YOUNG FESTIVAL AND CULTURAL MANAGERS Within the framework of The EU-China High Level People to People Dialogue between the European Commission and the People's Republic of China, The Festival Academy, an initiative of the European Festivals Association, launches the new Atelier for Young Festival and Cultural Managers, to take place in Shanghai, China, on 17 - 23 October 2017, with the aim to deepen Asia-Europe relations through international cultural exchange. The deadline for applications is 31 March 2017. >>> 10. MAPS - MASTER OF ARTS IN PUBLIC SPHERES The MAPS - Master of Arts in Public Spheres programme of the Haute Ecole d'Art du Valais, Sierre, Switzerland, is a two-year degree in the visual arts, addressing artists and professionals wishing to question the contemporary artist's relation to the public sphere in the following areas: environmental and land art, socially-engaged and community projects, site-specific artistic and curatorial interventions in the public space, art and the natural sciences, artistic research practice, and work on the dialectic between periphery and centre. 11. CULTURAL AND CREATIVE INDUSTRIES IN EUROPE The symposium on Cultural and Creative Industries in Europe: Maximising the Contribution of Culture towards Social and Economic Development will be held in Brussels on 21 March 2017, providing an opportunity to discuss ways to drive the development of cultural and creative industries in the EU and examine how cross-sector and cross-border collaborations can lead to a stronger and more competitive cultural sector. In addition to their economic value, this symposium will also explore the potential of cultural and creative industries to foster an inclusive European identity and support social cohesion. >>> 12. SECOND UCLG CULTURE SUMMIT: COMMITMENTS AND ACTIONS FOR CULTURE IN SUSTAINABLE CITIES The second United Cities and Local Governments (UCLG) Culture Summit is the main meeting point at a global level of cities, local governments and other stakeholders committed to the effective implementation of policies and programmes on culture and sustainability. To be held in Jeju, Republic of Korea, on 10 - 13 May 2017 under the title Commitments and Actions for Culture in Sustainable Cities, the summit aims to reinforce the role of culture in sustainable development, with a particular emphasis on the importance of cities and local spaces. >>> |
