Call for Papers for the Croatian International Relations Review (CIRR)

IRMO/Culturelink invites papers for a thematic Special Issue of the Croatian International Relations Review (CIRR) with the provisional title of European Union and Challenges of Cultural Policies: Critical Perspectives.

Within the framework of the Jean Monnet project EU Competences and National Cultural Policies: Critical Dialogues (CULPOL), the Croatian International Relations Review (CIRR, cirr.irmo.hr/en/), IRMO, now accepts contributions for this special issue that will focus on the systematic and critical reflections about the impact of the European Union on policies at the national level that are framing the cultural field, aiming to shed light on the challenges of implementing cultural policies, as well as on the challenges of thinking and creating new cultural policies. Original articles written in English up to 8000 words in length (including footnotes and an abstract of 150 words, and excluding the bibliography) are welcome. All selected articles are subject to double-blind refereeing by at least two reviewers. 1.   CALL FOR A WORLDWIDE READING OF THE UNIVERSAL DECLARATION OF HUMAN RIGHTS ON 6 SEPTEMBER 2017

The international literature festival berlin / Literaturfestival Berlin is calling upon all cultural and political institutions, schools, universities, media and individuals interested in joining it to give a Worldwide Reading and to subsequently discuss the 30 articles that make up the Universal Declaration of Human Rights adopted by the United Nations Assembly on 10 December 1948. 170 authors from 70 countries have already signed the appeal. >>>

2.   INTERNATIONAL CONGRESS ON LATIN AMERICAN STUDIES IN A GLOBALISED WORLD

LASA2018 - XXXVI International Congress on Latin American Studies in a Globalised World will take place in Barcelona, Spain, on 23 - 26 May 2018. The participants will examine both how people in other regions study and perceive Latin America and how Latin American studies contribute to the understanding of comparable processes and issues around the globe. 3.   BORDERLAND SPACES: RUINS, REVIVAL(S) AND RESOURCES

The 6th Conference of the Asian Borderlands Research Network will be held in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan, on 23 - 25 August 2018 under the title Borderland Spaces: Ruins, Revival(s) and Resources. The organisers invite panels and papers focusing attention on the generative and productive capacity of border spaces. The deadline for the submission of proposals is 2 October 2017. >>>

4.   CALL FOR PROPOSALS FOR PROJECTS TO SAFEGUARD DOCUMENTARY HERITAGE UNDER THREAT

The Prince Claus Fund, through its Cultural Emergency Response programme (CER), and the Whiting Foundation have launched a new call for proposals for projects in Africa, Asia, Latin America and the Caribbean to safeguard documentary heritage that is acutely threatened by recent conflict or other disaster, whether natural or man-made. Proposals will be accepted on a rolling basis until 31 December 2017. >>>

5.   MOBILITY FIRST! ASEF CULTURAL MOBILITY INITIATIVE 2017

Cultural mobility is integral to the practice and career of artists and cultural professionals, however, securing funding to finance international travel remains a major challenge, particularly in the Asia-Asia and Asia-Europe contexts. The Asia-Europe Foundation (ASEF) has launched Mobility First!, a new fund to support the travel of Asian and European artists and cultural professionals between Asia and Europe. The deadline for applications is 15 September 2017. >>>

6.   VISUAL AND DIGITAL ARTS RESIDENCIES AND PRACTICUM PROGRAMMES AT BANFF CENTRE 2018

Visual and Digital Arts programmes at Banff Centre for Arts and Creativity offer opportunities for artists to engage with world-renowned faculty and peers to gain new insights into the development of their work. Access to facilities and expertise in photography, sculpture, printmaking, papermaking, ceramics, fibre, painting, digital media, video, and sound, as well as curatorial studies are available. The application deadline for two residency programmes at the beginning of 2018 is 27 September 2017. >>>

7.   CREATIVE TOURISM AWARDS

Created by the Creative Tourism Network, the Creative Tourism Awards aim to reward companies, projects and destinations worldwide that foster this new generation of tourism, characterized by the active participation of the tourists in artistic and creative activities. 8.   CANON FOUNDATION RESEARCH FELLOWSHIPS

Contributing to international understanding between Europe and Japan, the Canon Foundation offers each year up to 15 Research Fellowships to highly qualified European and Japanese researchers. 9.   PhD PROGRAMME IN VISUAL ART AND DESIGN-RESEARCH IN AND THROUGH ARTISTIC PRACTICE 2017

PhDArts offers an international, high-level doctorate in art and design at Leiden University and the Royal Academy of Art, The Hague, The Netherlands. The PhDArts research trajectory consists of two elements: individual research and participation in the doctoral study programme consisting of lectures, seminars, trainings, and workshops. 10.   CAN WE TALK? ART IN THE AGE OF POPULISM

IETM, the International Network for Contemporary Performing Arts is organising its Plenary Meeting 2017 in Brussels, Belgium, on 23 - 26 November 2017. The Plenary Meeting, entitled Can We Talk? Art in the Age of Populism, will instigate a debate on how art can help to overcome the "us against them" discourse, put together the pieces of fragmented societies and shape a truly different future. 11.   WORLD SUMMIT ON ARTS AND CULTURE - MOBILE MINDS: CULTURE, KNOWLEDGE AND CHANGE

Mobile Minds: Culture, Knowledge and Change will be the theme of the 8th World Summit on Arts and Culture to be held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, on 11 - 14 March 2019. The World Summit, to be co-hosted by the International Federation of Arts Councils and Culture Agencies (IFACCA), and the National Department for Culture and Arts (JKKN) of the Malaysian Ministry of Tourism and Culture, is expected to attract arts leaders and key policy makers from up to 80 countries to look at the role of governmental agencies, cultural organisations and creative professionals in finding mechanisms for coping with, learning from and supporting change through culture and knowledge. >>>

12.   INVITATION TO JOIN NEWLY ESTABLISHED GROUP FOR HERITAGE POLICY

In cooperation with the Ministry of Culture, the Slovenian Evaluation Society has organized a Workshop on Smart Heritage Policy in Ljubljana, Slovenia, in May 2017. The workshop aimed to support the Council of Europe's Strategy 21: European Cultural Heritage Strategy for the 21st Century that is recommended as a model for all 47 member states. The organizers of the workshop invite you to join Smart Cultural Heritage Policy, a newly established LinkedIn Group. >>>

13.   INNOVATIONS IN CULTURE AND DEVELOPMENT. THE CULTURINNO EFFECT IN PUBLIC POLICY

We are happy to announce the publication of a new book by Daniela Angelina Jelincic, Research Adviser at the IRMO's Department for Culture and Communication and Culturelink Team member. Through the analysis of theoretical and practical policy frameworks, at the same time presenting practical examples of innovations in culture as well as recommendations for public policies, the book entitled 'Innovations in Culture and Development. The Culturinno Effect in Public Policy' shows how culture, as a sector, can be the driver of sustainable development, generating innovations in various spheres. >>>

15.   INTERARTIVE SPECIAL ISSUE - MALTA: CULTURE IN TRANSFORMATION

InterArtive, an online monthly journal and open platform for dialogue, published its latest 2017 special issue on Malta: Culture in Transformation. The issue includes a series of in-depth articles on the diverse initiatives, opportunities, challenges and visions that are currently changing the cultural ecosystem of the Maltese archipelago. >>>

16.   ARTS/CULTURAL MANAGEMENT IN INTERNATIONAL CONTEXTS

The publication Arts/Cultural Management in International Contexts by Birgit Mandel presents the results of a research conducted in cooperation with the Goethe Institut and the European Cultural Foundation Amsterdam / Mit Ost Berlin on the opinions of arts/cultural managers around the world regarding their profession, working conditions, current challenges, required competencies and training opportunities. >>>

17.   MAPPING THE CREATIVE VALUE CHAINS - A STUDY ON THE ECONOMY OF CULTURE IN THE DIGITAL AGE

A new study from the European Commission on the economy of culture focuses on a mapping of the creative value chains in the digital age. It examines the economic structure of creative value chains and analyses how digitization has influenced market relations and competitive dynamics in the European context. >>>
