EU Competences and National Cultural Policies: Critical Dialogues

The Department for Culture and Communication of the Institute for Development and International Relations (IRMO), headquarters of the Culturelink Network, is coordinating a two-year Jean Monnet project entitled EU Competences and National Cultural Policies: Critical Dialogues (CULPOL), co-funded by the Erasmus+ Programme. The project will be implemented between September 2016 and August 2018. The primary aim of the project is to raise interest in EU related topics and to promote discussion and reflection on the impact of the EU agenda on the Croatian cultural policy. The project will contribute to the establishment of closer cooperation and networking among members of the Croatian cultural policy research community, cultural professionals and policy-makers responsible for the implementation of the different EU instruments and agendas. In addition to organizing a series of networking meetings, promotional events, and building a web platform, the main activities on the project include:

  • an international conference on EU soft mechanisms under the title of Perspectives of National Cultural Policy Development in the EU Context: Critical Dialogues (spring, 2017);
  • an international round table on the impact of the Digital Single Market strategy on the reforms of Croatian cultural policy (in 2018); and
  • the publication of a special issue of the journal Croatian International Relations Review (CIRR), focusing on the European Union and cultural policy issues (in 2018), that will serve as a tool for knowledge dissemination among a wider circle of Croatian cultural policy researchers and students.

The project events and activities will be open to academia, researchers, cultural professionals and policy-makers, while special focus will be put on the engagement of postgraduate students and young professionals. The project related research activities will be presented through an electronic CULPOL Issue Papers series, making the research of the project stakeholders more visible and accessible to all interested parties.
