Perspectives of National Cultural Policy Development in the EU Context: Critical Dialogues
IRMO's Department for Culture and Communication (focal point of Culturelink) is organizing an international conference on Perspectives of National Cultural Policy Development in the EU Context: Critical Dialogues, to be held in Zagreb, Croatia, on 18 - 19 May 2017. Taking place within the framework of activities of the Jean Monnet project on EU Competences and National Cultural Policies: Critical Dialogues (CULPOL), the conference intends to contribute to enhancing knowledge about relevant cultural policy processes at the European Union level. By bringing together researchers, cultural professionals and policy-makers, the conference will foster dialogue between different cultural-policy stakeholders, putting into the spotlight the need for the sustainability of culture, as well as the fact that there is no sustainable development without culture.
The conference aims to address a pivotal question - whether it is time for a paradigm shift in cultural policies and what the possible ways forward are. IRMO/Culturelink invites researchers, cultural professionals, artists, cultural workers and policy-makers to share their knowledge, concerns and visions. The conference will tackle different challenges for EU and national cultural policies today. It will be organized in a form that will allow plenty of discussions. In addition to two keynote speeches addressing issues of cultural policies at EU and national levels, the main issues dealt with in the sessions will be:
- Cultural policies and the crisis in/of the EU - how to achieve sustainable cultural development?
- Strategies and tendencies of local cultural development in Europe: the role and impact of the European Capital of Culture project;
- What kind of European comparative cultural policy research is needed today?
- National cultural policies in need of vision, innovation and leadership.
