    Marking the publication of two new books in the Culturelink Joint Publications Series, entitled Networks: The Evolving Aspects of Culture in the 21st Century (edited by Biserka Cvjeticanin) and Cultural Identity Politics in the (Post-)Transitional Societies (edited by Aldo Milohnic and Nada Svob-Djokic), a Cultural Forum was held at the Mimara Museum in Zagreb, Croatia, on 18 November 2011.     UNESCO and the Permanent Memorial Committee have launched an international design competition, for the creation of a Permanent Memorial to honour the Victims of Slavery and Transatlantic Slave Trade. The deadline for submitting proposals is 19 December 2011. (full details)

    Under the title Establishing an Evidence Base for the Cultural Olympiad: London 2012, a special edition of the Cultural Trends Journal, edited by Beatriz Garcia, University of Liverpool, invites interested authors to submit papers that will look into the experience of planning for, delivering and capturing the impacts of a Cultural Olympiad.     The Institute for Cultural Diplomacy (ICD) in cooperation with the Dubrovnik International University (DIU) is launching a graduate Master of Arts programme in International Relations and Cultural Diplomacy, to be held in Berlin and Dubrovnik starting in September 2011.     With the book Networks: The Evolving Aspects of Culture in the 21st Century, Culturelink marks twenty years of its continuous networking and research activities in cultural development, cultural policies, intercultural communication and international cultural cooperation. Researchers from all continents investigate the role and relevance that cultural networks have in cultural development and communication, and new perspectives of cultural networking in the 21st century. Special consideration is given to the position of cultural networks within cultural policy structures and to the effective usage of innovative information and communication technologies.     UNESCO launches an international call for applications for technical assistance missions: Strengthening the Governance of Culture in Developing Countries. The missions will support the beneficiary countries in their effort to establish legal, regulatory, and/or institutional frameworks and/or introduce policies that address the role of culture in social and economic development, particularly thorough the cultural industries.     The University of Arts in Belgrade, Serbia, in cooperation with the University Lyon 2, France is organizing a joint MA programme in Cultural Policy and Management on Interculturalism and Mediation in the Balkans, which has been named UNESCO Chair in 2004 for its excellence in the promotion of intercultural cooperation and mediating capacities of culture.     The Culturelink Network would like to thank all of its members who were so kind to answer the questionnaire sent out in February of this year for the research study entitled Encouraging Private Investment in the Cultural Sector, that IMO (Culturelink's focal point) is undertaking on behalf of the European Parliament. The study aims at providing a better understanding of the importance of public incentives for the private funding of culture, as well as assessing how good practises at the national level can improve the financial sustainability of cultural producers.
    We will inform you about the results of the study when the final version is completed and accepted by the European parliament. Thanks again!

    Culturelink would like to draw your attention to the round table organized by the Culturelink Network focal point, the Institute for International Relations (IMO), in cooperation with the Hellenic Foundation for European and Foreign Policy (ELIAMEP) on Media Policies: Country Practices within the EU Media Regulatory Framework. The round table took place in Zagreb on 10 December 2010, and gathered over forty participants: experts involved in the MEDIADEM project and researchers and stakeholders of media policy in Croatia. Speakers discussed the national media regulatory practices and the influence the European Union exerts on the media policies. (full details)
