    Culture Europe International, the magazine devoted to cultural practices and policies in Europe, has become an online magazine, freely available at www.culture-europe-international.org. Visitors are offered shorts, press reviews, book reviews, new articles and can submit their own texts. Part of the archives have been fully digitized and readers can search and order all past issue. The web interface is trilingual, French, English and Spanish.

    The Botswana Department of Culture and Youth of the Ministry of Youth, Sport and Culture announces the upcoming Orange Botswerere, Botswana Artists Awards, to be presented at the International Conference Centre in Gaborone, on 23 November 2007. The main purpose of the Awards is to recognise and promote the artistic talent of Botswana and through this recognition to bring them to public attention and appreciation. The Awards will present six categories, dance, drama, music, visual arts, film and video, writing and photography. Artists will be rewarded for their outstanding and significant contributions to the arts industry in Botswana.     A new international Master of Architecture degree course will start in October 2007 at the Zollverein School in Essen, Germany. Entitled SPACE – 'shaping politics, architecture, culture, and economy' – this 16-month course puts design in a new context. The SPACE, in other words the area of opportunities between architecture, design, and its social context, thereby becomes a testing ground for an extended concept of design. The course is open to architects, designers, urban planners, and civil engineers. The closing date for receipt of applications is 31 August 2007.     According to research conducted by Deakin University in Australia, the International Journal of Cultural Policy is ranked number one in its field for its contribution to theory, practice and teaching by academics around the world. Having brought together the academic and policy domains that have for too long been apart, in its brief history the IJCP has provided a much needed medium of high quality scholarship to the expanding field of cultural policy research. Providing an outlet for an interdisciplinary and international exploration of the nature, function and impact of cultural policies, it includes a broad view of cultural policy, encompassing culture as a "way of life" as well as culture in the narrower sense of the arts and cultural industries.     The Council of Europe is announcing its Call for Nominations for the North-South Prize, inviting submission entries naming individuals, a group of individuals or an organisation whose activities are considered worthy of distinction. The prize has been awarded annually since 1995 to two public figures who are recognised for their deep commitment, outstanding achievements and/or the hope they have generated in the field of human rights protection, the defence of pluralist democracy and North-South solidarity and partnership.     CERGE-EI, a joint workplace in the field of economics associated with the Czech Centre for Economic Research and Graduate Education of Charles University (CERGE) and the Economics Institute of the Academy of Sciences of the Czech Republic (EI), announces its 8th annual Global Development Network (GDN) Regional Research Competition (RRC). The goal is to support high-quality policy-relevant research in the social sciences throughout Central and Eastern Europe. The deadline for the competition is, per postmark, 1 July 2007.     The KulturForum Europa, set up in 1992 with the aim of promoting the European Union idea in the field of culture, awarded its 2007 European Culture Award (KulturPreis Europa) to the Music Biennale Zagreb (MBZ), in recognition of its part in building cultural bridges between Eastern and Western Europe and world-wide. This international festival of contemporary music opened Croatia's doors to Europe and the world through its many editions for nearly 50 years, in line with a philosophy that calls for intercultural dialogue and tolerance. MBZ helped many young people and prominent composers and musicians from both East and West to come together, and has created an opportunity for them to come together and meet with audiences in festivals, co-productions, cultural exchange programmes, workshops, conferences and symposia.

    On 18 December 2006, the European Parliament and the Council of the European Union have passed Decision No. 1983/2006/EC proclaimning 2008 the European Year of Intercultural Dialogue. With a budget of € 10 million, the Year will present a variety of projects that will be implemented in the framework of EU programmes and other Community actions, encouraging the mobilisation of civil society and actors at the European, national and local levels. Culture, education, youth, sport and citizenship are the main implementation fields. A Call for Ideas for promoting intercultural dialogue in Europe has been launched.
