The publication Enhancing Participation in the Arts in the EU. Challenges and Methods is the final output of the work done by the members of the EU project Assessing Effective Tools to Enhance Cultural Participation, which brought together social scientists and cultural practitioners in joint projects, conferences and seminars, to reflect on the current situation and the challenges faced by managers of cultural and arts institutions and cultural policy makers. It describes and assesses available methods and participation in the arts, and seeks to determine how and to what extent the various drivers, policies and barriers matter. The book's chapters are structured within five parts: the first presents instruments for measurement and assesses them, taking into account an international comparative perspective; the second is concerned with the analysis of various sectors: music, theatre, museums and cultural heritage; the third focuses on tourism; the fourth deals with the impact of new technologies; and the fifth is devoted to articles on funding and innovation respectively. The book will be of great interest to policy makers, public and private programmers, academics and a broad audience of people who perform professional roles in cultural creation, dissemination and programming.
