IIAS Summer Programme

From 19-26 June 2011, the International Institute for Asian Studies (IIAS) will organize a summer programme in Leiden, the Netherlands, for MA and PhD students on the topic of Heritage Conserved and Contested: Asian and European Perspectives. Registration deadline is 15 January 2011.

This first Summer Programme in Asian Studies aims to shed light on the various definitions, interests, and practices associated with the question of cultural heritage in Asia and Europe. The programme will be run by two world-renowned scholars in the fields of cultural heritage theory and cultural Asian history, respectively, Prof. Michael Herzfeld (Harvard University) and Prof. Nira Wickramasinghe (Leiden University).

The International Institute for Asian Studies is a postdoctoral research centre based in Leiden and Amsterdam, the Netherlands, whose main objective is to encourage the interdisciplinary and comparative study of Asia and to promote national and international cooperation in the field. The IIAS focuses on the human and social sciences and on their interaction with other sciences.
